The Assassin's Lament

I put all my trust in you.
We were companions
You held me as I wept
I was there through your highs and lows
We ventured far and wide.

In a moment of desperation you made your choice
A life of friendship gone with the slash of a blade and a fountain of gore
I wandered through the ruined fields on search of aid
Dragged my ruined form to the square of an unknown town
Where I came face to face with a strange Clown

He brought me back from the brink of death
And he took me in to his circus of madness
We performed across the ravaged lands
I wowed crowds with my feats of athleticism
I found a new family, new friends

Years passed and we traveled 'round this destroyed land
Entertaining and distracting and recruiting.
You had nearly faded from my hole-filled mind
Til one day we visited an all too familiar place
And in the crowd I saw you.
You.
You.
You.
No more thoughts in my ruined head!!
I rip the dagger from its old place on your hip
And I return the favor.
