Contrast
The sky shifts from black to red to pink to blue.
The day star burns the landscape.
Some creatures stretch and begin their day
Others slink home and shut their eyes.
The dry sand and soil bake under the merciless rays.
Hunters glide high above, watching for food.
I gaze out the window and long for you.
A pack walks the desert, united.
A reptile rests atop a rock, soaking up the sun.
A wounded mammal falls to its side and never rises.
